THE CITY

In the world of NYC AAU basketball there are many programs and organizations that are competing to be recognized as a national power. THE CITY is just that. One team, one family, based in SOHO, this is a taste of who they are and where they are headed in 2012.

NBPA Turkey Drive in Harlem

Each Thanksgiving the NBPA (National Basketball Players Association) makes sure residents of Harlem who are currently struggling have the opportunity to receive a turkey for Thanksgiving, rain or shine. Despite the lockout going on at the time the NBPA still did right by the people of New York City.

Tyson Chandler Takes Manhattan

A few weeks ago, while the NBA Lockout was still on, I spent some time with Tyson Chandler during his visit to New York City.

Now, I could try to make you believe I closed him for the Knicks, but that just wouldn’t the truth. New York City did that for itself. As it turns out Tyson has quite an artistic side, specifically when it comes to fashion, photography and painting – and NYC is overflowing with opportunities for Tyson to explore those passions.

Thanks to Dime and Excel Sports Management, I had the opportunity to spend a November Tuesday bouncing around the city with him while he hit up various places to feed his creative hunger. We started at the Hasted Kraeutler Gallery in Chelsea, then made our way to a book store called Printed Matter on 10th Avenue where Tyson found a fan ‘zine dedicated to him and his career.

From there we hit Park Avenue for a fashion meeting at Joseph Abboud‘s office (turns out he is a Celtics fan) and then down to West Street to the Novogratz Home (Hosts of “Home by Novogratz” on HGTV) to tour the space and meet with celebrity photographer Tim Greany.

Check out the video the video of Tyson’s Manhattan travels.

Fieldston Eagles 2011: Unfinished Business

The 2011 Fieldston Eagles: Unfinished Business from Eric Newman on Vimeo.

This is the team film I produced for the 2010-2011 Fieldston Eagles Varsity Basketball Team. Fieldston won 18 games and finished 2nd in the Ivy League this past season before their season ended in the state playoffs. With four seniors graduating and nine players returning Fieldston is primed for an even better 2011-2012 season, where they will hopefully address their Unfinished Business.

Chain Link Fundamentals – Summer 2010

Chain Link Fundamentals – Summer 2010 from Eric Newman on Vimeo.

The summer of 2010 was a historical one for NYC basketball as the Nike World Basketball Festival will never be forgotten. Within that dynamic basketball journey was the evolution of Chain Link Fundamentals, a not-for-profit basketball clinic program which Nike helps support. Chain Link Fundamentals had the opportunity to be the featured grassroots program for the youth of NYC in Harlem leading up to and during the festival, this is a taste of what that was.
